Please note, all Lyne FC team names and forums have been changed to the 2010/2011 age names.

Also, for all Team forums, the threads have been pruned so threads not started/updated in the last 30-60 days have been removed. Due to our success, the database was getting so large it was causing a few issues.

Any issues, let me know.

Lyne FC Under 14's get to League Cup Final

Lyne, April 21, 2008 - Local football club Lyne FC have a chance to gain their first silverware of the season when their Elite under-14 squad face AFC Wimbledon in the Surrey Primary League cup final this Sunday (April 27).

The achievement marks an important stage in the development of the club which formed only two seasons ago. From the initial handful of players and enthusiastic parents, the club, based at Lyne Recreation Ground in Lyne Lane, has gone from strength to strength with currently more than 120 playing members. Next season Lyne FC will be fielding 14 teams for local children age 7 to 15 and has secured the use of two new grounds at St Ann's Heath school in Virginia Water and Rosemary Lane in Thorpe to cope with the expansion.

The Elite under-14 squad has been the core of the club since it started. Gaining promotion from SPL League Division One last season, the team has been challenging some of the top clubs around in the Premier Division.

Commenting on Lyne's cup hopes, Nigel Edgecombe, club coordinator and Elite coach, said, "I'm absolutely delighted. The boys have really worked hard this season and deserve their chance for a bit of glory."

"It's an honour to be playing in the final against such quality opposition as AFC Wimbledon. We will be seen as the underdogs but that can be an advantage. I think we have a great chance of putting Lyne FC on the map."

The final will be hosted by Ash United at their Shawfield Road ground in Ash, Aldershot. 4.00pm kick-off, all spectators welcome.
