Surrey County High Sheriff, Mrs. Sally Varah, today visited Lyne FC’s home ground in Lyne Lane, Lyne to present the club with a High Sheriff Youth Award of £1000 to help buy new training kit. In the past year, the High Sheriff Youth Awards scheme has distributed over £40,000 to young people and youth organizations in Surrey that are actively helping to reduce crime and bad behaviour and contributing to making their communities a stronger and safer place. The award to Lyne FC recognizes the club’s achievement in providing more than 100 local children from all backgrounds and abilities the opportunity to play football and keep active. The club also plays its part in the local community through helping Lyne Village Hall association maintain the recreation grounds and partnering with local Primary School, St. Ann’s Heath in Virginia Water to share facilities and provide soccer school activities at the weekends. Nigel Edgecombe, Club Coordinator, said “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award. We very much respect what the High Sheriff is trying to do make our communities safer and stronger and we are glad to play our part.” The award has been used by Lyne to buy every player a new training top to help build a common sense of identity and belonging amongst the club. The High Sheriff was able to see the kit first hand during her visit as the children put on a special training session and talked freely about why they enjoy football. Commenting on her visit, Sally Varah said “I am impressed by the enthusiasm and energy of the young people – aged from 9 to 15, and from diverse backgrounds and communities – who are actively committed to Lyne FC. It’s good to know that by funding the training strip, we are helping to build that sense of identity.
“In my year as High Sheriff, I am particularly keen to support diversionary sports projects that promote potential in young people – and lead to healthy, fulfilled lives that are freer from crime and disaffection. I look forward to hearing that the teams from Lyne FC are top of their leagues!”
Our Thanks to everyone from the Club which attended the presentation and Special Thanks to Mrs Daphne Mitchell who attended as Secretary of Lyne Village Hall Managment Committee.
A great day for Lyne F.C
